Just wanted to share a couple of cool pictures I shot of my friends today at a rock quarry we found a couple of hours away. They're unedited but I think I'm gonna use a couple of them for the photography summer homework. I really liked the reflections on the water and the textures of the rocks.

ON AN LESS SERIOUS-LESS ART NOTE

Ok completely changing the subject from my last post- every year my mom's company, Starkey Hearing Foundations, has a charity gala that raises money for mission trips to third world countries that provide hearing aids to people with hearing imparememts. This year my mom decided to take me as her date and it was so much fun. I got super overwhelmed by the amount of famous people there and got photos with a few of them that I will attach because they're awesome and I had the time of my life. Some of the people that attended that were way too difficult to get photos with were Bill and Hillary Clinton, George Bush, Katy Perry, Samuel L Jackson, and  Gene Simmons from KISS.
This is an blurry photo of my mom and I on the red carpet
Kyle Massey from That's So Raven and Corey in the House
Frankie Muniz from Malcom in the Middle and Agent Cody Banks
My mom with Dascha Polanco who plays Dayanara on Prange is the New Black

There were a lot of important world leaders that I didn't really know and also also a lot of sports people I didn't know. I had such a fun time and I just wanted to post something personal I did.

Have you guys done anything else fun/progressed on your summer work? Now that I'm finished with my commission sign I'm really gonna focus on the collage and drawings. As for the photos- I'm taking a lot of my friends senior photos this upcoming week and I'll post the good ones. Luv u all don't be afraid to post!!!!

Hi all! I did my first commission piece this summer! My boyfriend's dad owns an electric car company that recently changed their name from AMP electric vehicle to Workhorse, and he paid me to hand paint their new logo onto the sign for the front of their building. It definitely would have been less time consuming if he just bought a big sticker, but I didn't argue with it. First I peeled off the login all big logo sticker and then I put on a spray paint base coat. From there I went down to UC and printed out a really big stencil to cover the whole sign. I hand painted the yellow background first, let it dry, put the stencil down and painted the black, and then put down a top coat of clear paint (all of it was outdoor paint). It sounds like it would be a quick project to complete but it actually took me nearly two weeks (three days a week 15 hours a week). It was a really good experience for me and I'm super glad that I got to I earn money while doing something I'm genuinely interested in. Here's the finished product.
The purple logo was the original and the yellow and black is the new one.

Hi everyone! Tonight I held my fundraiser event for my Capstone project. For this part of the project, I taught a painting to a group of my family and friends. I am using the money I raised through the event to buy supplies for my upcoming art sessions at the Magnificat Unit. I will be designing and leading art projects with a floor of older, disabled religious sisters. I had a lot of fun with my fundraiser, and included some photos, one of which is of the finished painting. The leader of the organization created the original piece. I thought to share since it is obviously art related!

Hi again! Yesterday I finished gluing down the paper components of my collage. I used a mixture of magazine, drawn, and printed images. I am still considering putting some more markmaking on top of what I have. However, I also forget what we used during the year to seal the collages. I was assuming it was Modge Podge, but I want to make sure that is the right material to use before I cover my piece with it. I also included a photo of what I have!

On another note, I am eager to start the photography as well. However, I don't really own a camera besides the one on my smartphone. Will this be sufficient to work with? Thanks!

Hey there guys!

Sorry I haven't posted anything yet, I've been fairly busy not only with summer assignments but with some personal projects as well (some of which were inspired by ideas given to me by Mrs. Brauer). I've found some good inspiration on my grandparents' farm but other than that I am somewhat lacking, though I'm hoping to solve that this week actually. On Friday, I'm leaving for a couple weeks to go on a family vacation in the Outer Banks. The house we always stay at is frequented by herds of wild horses so I hope to get some more pictures for the photography aspect of our summer assignment.

As for the other components, I have a few ideas to go off of for the collage and I have a set plan for the prized possession drawing. When Mrs. Brauer first sent us the document at the end of the school year, I was already jotting down ideas for both!

Anna and Maria, it's nice to see others already working on the assignments. I was worried I was the only one and thought that maybe I was going a bit too fast on them. I have all of the materials prepared that I need (probably way more than necessary) and I've got my little studio set up in my basement ready to go for when I return from vacation.

My only real concern for this upcoming school year is being able to come up with a theme that will keep my interest for the entire year. I tend to jump from one thing to the next rather rapidly on my own. In the short amount of time that we have been off, I've managed to work my way through several different editing programs on the computer, try out a couple different paint varieties, and even dip my toe into polymer clay (figuratively, of course). I just hope that I can find a subject and a medium that will keep me entertained for the school year as well as give me some wiggle room to experiment with new techniques.

I can't wait to get back into the classroom and see what you guys have created over the summer! I'm sure we'll have some good discussions both online and in class about our journeys over the summer and how the summer assignments have let us further develop our skills.

Hey, You Two! Thanks for beginning the conversation! Glad to hear from the 2 of you.
Anna, good to hear that you have started your photo assignment. A booklet sounds like a good way to organize the work and to keep it neat. It will give you something extra to take with you to Portfolio Day! That's a good thing.
Maria, sorry you won't be going to Cleveland, but it sounds like you have been busy, too. It's good to keep working. It makes it easier to jump back into the school year.
I have been busy, too. I am in the process of moving my art studio from the second floor to the first floor. It will now be in my sun room, off the living room. But my painting space will stay upstairs for now.
I am digging up all of the plantings in my front yard, so I can get that space in good shape. It has been let go and I need to gain control of it and redesign the whole thing. So everything has to come out! What a job! But it will be nice when it's finished.
I am teaching a photography/Photoshop class to some neighborhood kids in July. I have been doing this for the past 3 summers. The kids are 5-8th grades. It's one week only. I'm praying for good weather so we can get good images to work with.
Don't put too much pressure on yourself regarding your Concentration yet. Just keep writing things down as they occur to you. We can discuss them online, or wait until later.
Well, take care and keep making art! We'll talk again, I hope!

Hi everyone! Hope you're having a fantastic summer and you're staying creative.

I'm really not sure how to use this blog or what necessarily to use it for, but I think it's a good idea and I said I'd try it, so here I am.

I'm starting to work on my AP Summer assignments this week and the first part I'm tackling is the photography. I went to the zoo earlier and brought my camera and got a couple of really cool shots and on Thursday my friends and I are going hiking and I'm bringing my camera along to that also. How is everyone else planning on presenting their photos? Should I put them in a book when I'm finished or just email them or something?

I plan on starting the drawings and collage pretty soon too so I don't end up doing them last minute, but I'm feeling a little uninspired. Same goes for thinking or my concentration for next year. I can't think of one thing that I enjoy enough to focus on for 12 pieces. Ashley and Bonino- have you been thinking about that at all yet? Any ideas?

How is everyone's summer going? I know we're only like a week in, but does anyone have anything fun planned? I know Maria has the art camp, when does that start? Anyone else doing anything like that?
